SUMMARY:We need to talk about open source
DESCRIPTION:If your company is involved in developing software\, then you’re aware of the importance of open-source code. Developers love it! Legal departments fear it! Questions around compliance\, governance\, and the commercial implications of open source are ubiquitous and multi-faceted. \nEnter the era of generative AI\, and open models are competing with proprietary heavyweights. But which will win out in the long term? And does unfettered access to such technologies help\, or hinder\, the drive towards improved safety and equity? \nWe’re ready to open up on open source at our next Codiphy event. \nThis time\, we’ll be focusing on the commercial aspects of using and offering open-source software\, and on the intersection between open source and AI. \nClick the Register button to join us at EIP’s London office for two panel sessions with top voices in the industry. We’ll end the evening with good food\, good company\, and an open (source) cocktail bar.

SUMMARY:XChange MSP
DESCRIPTION:THE CHIEF NETWORKING EVENT FOR UK \nPROVIDERS  OF MANAGED SERVICES \nThursday 19 October 2023 \, The May Fair Hotel Stratton Street\, Mayfair\, London\, W1J 8LT \nMSPs had a paramount 2021 and 2022 with significant M&A deals impacting the channel and its partners in a considerable way. Consolidation in the managed services space continues\, with big buy and builds taking place where MSPs are being rolled up by larger players. The channel continues to feel the pinch of the tech talent shortage while 2023 has so far been the year of major layoffs. These mass vendor cuts are leading staff to turn to the IT channel for employment\, presenting new opportunities for MSPs. \n\nJoin CRN on 19 October at The May Fair in London to hear keynotes\, panel discussions\, and boardroom sessions covering these pressing topics from the UK’s premier managed service providers and decision makers. \nRegister for your complimentary place at XChange MSP \n#XCH23

SUMMARY:OpenUK London Meetup #8: Future of Open Source in 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join OpenUK on Tuesday 24 October for our next OpenUK community meetup\, which has us starting to think about what we want open source to look like in 2024. What roles are needed? \nHow can we create stronger communities? Any project goals? Anything the OpenUK community can help with? \nWe wont have a speaker at this event as it’s a fishbowl and this is your opportunity to swim in our bowl and share your thoughts on the future of open source software. \nEvery attendee – online or in person – can chose to put their name forward into a prize draw to win a free ticket to the Second Annual State of Open Con taking place on 7-8 February\, 2024\, in central London. So this won’t be a night to be missed! \n6:30pm: Arrive\, grab a bev\, a slice and a chat.\n7:30pm: We will kick off with a couple ice breakers and then jump right into the main event.\n7:45pm: The main activity format will be a fishbowl:\nfive seats at the front of the room\, with one always empty.\nIf a fifth sits down\, one of the others gets up. A continuous discussion that flows around a topic. Anyone is welcome to jump right into the “bowl” at any time with questions\, topics or responses.\n(Live stream will also allow remote joiners to participate)\n8:45-9pm: Raffle winner announcement\, cleanup and goodbyes. \nEverybody is also welcome to join online. \nWe will even have a computer ready to fill that fourth seat if online participants raise their hands to join the discussion. (Log-in details will be sent out to all attendees the night before.) \nPlease remember to bring your I.D. if you are attending in person\, as it is required to access the venue. \nThank you to our sponsors Avanade for providing this great space! \nBy attending this or any OpenUK event\, you are adhering to our Code of Respect and OpenUK’s Competition Policy\nPlease read ahead. \nIf you would like to hear more about OpenUK’s other events\, you can join our Newsletter.
