Phil Weir runs Flax & Teal, a global specialist company, focused on use and creation of professional open source beyond traditional IT applications – cultural heritage, engineering simulation, semiconductors and geophysics. In particular, he drives products for the tesilience and natural disaster management sectors, targeting the public sector and insurers. Phil has worked both in academia, modelling floating structures in the Antarctic, and industry, advocating for open source engineering simulation orchestration (especially finite element). Phil was a founding organiser of the Northern Ireland Developer Conference, and jointly runs the Belfast Linux/Libre User Group (BLUG).
