David Mackay
Former Vice President of Flight & Test Operations and Chief PilotDavid learned to fly while studying Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Glasgow. After graduating he joined the RAF and flew Harriers. He became an experimental test pilot at the French Test Pilot School before returning to the UK to work at Boscombe Down.
In 1995 David joined Virgin Atlantic becoming a captain on the Boeing 747 and later on the Airbus 340.
In 2004 he evaluated the SpaceShipOne flight simulator. He became Virgin Galactic’s test pilot and flew to space for the first time in 2019.
David recently retired as Vice President of Flight & Test Operations and Chief Pilot.
