Dear Readers,

I have ended this year with a visit to Beijing, where the Mandarin translation of the book I edited, “Open Source Law, Policy & Practice”, was launched. I then went to Tokyo, where I keynoted the first UK-Japan Innovation workshop. Our international collaboration will continue into 2026, when I will be attending the Global AI Impact Summit as a guest of the Indian Government. OpenUK will be hosting, with Hiren Parekh, Dr Jennifer Barth, Anil Madhavapeddy, and our local partners, a number of fringe events.

OpenUK 2026 New Year Honours List

The OpenUK Honours List 2026 is the 6th annual honours list produced by OpenUK. This list recognises some of the talented individuals who are part of the UK’s leadership in Open Technology. Watch out for the list, which will be sorted at midnight on 31st December.

OpenUK Christmas Party

OpenUK celebrated the Christmas Season with a party in central London this Tuesday. The attendees were treated to a visit from Santa and Giselle. Thanks to PerconaIsovalentCollaboraKyndryl and Sal Kimmich, CSM, for supporting Santa. We will also have a Christmas Lunch in Edinburgh on 22nd December.

State of Open Con goes on the Road

We are delighted to share that SOOCon26 will have a new format – and will be made up of several smaller events across the UK rather than one big London event. Read more about it in our blog post.  Dates for each city will be shared in January

Our two-day London event will be back in February 2027!

There are lots of opportunities to get involved as staff at the event or in the content, so contact mailto:admin@openuk.uk for more info.

OpenUK in the Press

Podcast / Past Event Talks

Amanda Brock discusses how the term open source is so often used incorrectly, why true open source is fundamental to the success of innovation and why AI and its data have created complicated conversations around what it means to be open.
