Simon is a specialist in the governance of open source communities. As a software and network engineer and open software advocate he helped popularise Java in the 1990s and then while heading one of the industry’s first OSPOs helped make it open source in the 2000s. Since then he has been a leading figure at the Open Source Initiative, serving as its President for many years and now leading its international standards and policy work.
