Dear Readers,
We live in exciting times. Having received 73 applications for our Board, we will be announcing 8 successful candidates in early December. In the meantime, we have further opportunities to engage with OpenUK and our new international sister OpenHQ, through our Ambassador Programme Refresh. We are looking forward to continuing to work with some of our existing ambassadors and to welcoming a new cohort into the fold.
A lot is going to be happening in the next week. Having hosted the Impact Summit Organiser Abhishek Singh at a dinner in London this week, next week we will be releasing our latest AI Openness Update during Bangalore Tech Week, hosting a press preview at Civo Navigate India and releasing the report during the Bangalore Tech Summit. This report contains all the usual global data and policy updates on AI openness since our last report in July, as well as a deep dive on the UK and India data and a focus on Sovereignty and data access, two themes we expect to be key at the AI Impact Summit in Delhi in February.
Our Research Director, Dr Jennifer Barth, will be in Brazil at the Open Forum Academy, sharing our work on the value of open source, which has been ongoing for 4 years.

OpenUK’s Ambassador programme refresh is live. We will continue to support 3 Categories of Ambassadors and are looking for applicants for all categories.
Ambassador – for those UK-based with over 10 years of contribution or with an exceptional contribution to open tech – software, hardware, data, standards or AI;
Apprentice Ambassador – for those UK-based with less than 10 years of contribution or to open tech – software, hardware, data, standards or AI; and
International Ambassador – working with our new sister organisation, OpenHQ, for those who are not UK-based.
The UK has a huge Open Tech population, and we’ll be delighted to see applications from both well-established and more early-stage folk in the Ambassador and Apprentice Ambassador categories. We hope to have folk across the UK.
But never fear, if you aren’t based in the UK, we are also taking applications for our OpenHQ International Ambassadors.
The Road to the AI Impact Summit London, Dinner and Roundtable, “AI Openness: Impact, Access and Innovation”
Official Pre-Summit Event of the AI Impact Summit 2026
We were delighted to host the AI Impact Summit lead, Abhishek Singh, in London with a small group of leaders from open tech, and Dame Chi Onwurah MP, as we debated what AI Openness means by considering Impact, Access and Innovation. The dinner is reported in our AI openness report next week.

OpenUK Awards 2025 Shortlist
And if you missed it, our Awards nominees shortlist is live, and you can look forward to hearing from some of the nominees in short videos, which will be shared over the next few weeks. We are delighted to host circa 120 people at our Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony in the House of Commons on 4th December, thanks to the sponsorship of Dame Chi Onwurah, MP. All nominees have been offered one free place at this event, recognised as the “Oscars of Open Source”.
Our annual awards are free to apply to, and we do not charge attendees, including nominees, to attend or for their trophies. This is made possible by the generous sponsorship we receive.
