Dear Readers,
As we enter December, it’s as busy as ever. I will be heading to China this week to keynote COSCon, the biggest community conference in China and to see the launch of the Mandarin translation of Open Source Law, Policy and Practice, which has been translated by the Kaiyuanshe community, the community behind COSCon.
We are looking forward to our Awards taking place on the 4th December – look out for the newsletter of winners on the night – and to the London Christmas Party on 16th December and the Edinburgh Christmas Lunch on the 22nd.
Our policy work will begin again straight.

State of Open Con goes on the Road

We are delighted to share that SOOCon26 will have a new format – and will be made up of several smaller events across the UK rather than one big London event. Read more about it in our blog post. Dates for each city will be shared in January
Our two-day London event will be back in February 2027!
Giving Thanks for our New Board Members

OpenUK Awards 2025 Shortlist
And if you missed it, our Awards nominees shortlist is live and the winners will be announced on 4th December, at a gala dinner and awards ceremony, thanks to the sponsorship of Dame Chi Onwurah, MP. All nominees have been offered one free place at this event, recognised as the “Oscars of Open Source”. Our annual awards are free to apply to, and we do not charge attendees, including nominees, to attend or for their trophies. This is made possible by the generous sponsorship we receive.

OpenUK will host a lunch on 22 December in Edinburgh for community contributors. If you are part of the open source community and would like to join, let us know.
