Policy

OpenUK’s Policy engagement spans all areas of open tech. This work is led by CEO and Chief Policy Officer, Amanda Brock, with support from Dr Jennifer Barth, our Chief Research Officer, a Policy Advisory Board and number of subject matter Advisory Boards made up of deep subject matter expertise, with a unique engagement at the intersection of business, technology and research/ academia.OpenUK engages with UK and international organisations and is a Member or Friend of all key Open Tech bodies. We offer opportunities for community engagement, and for UK based individuals to represent OpenUK on these organisations. Topics covered across our Policy remit and Boards reflect the key challenges of digital and tech.

Policy Outlines

OpenUK’s new policy outlines are short reports on key topics published on a frequent basis, to update on key issues to open tech in the UK and globally. Our first OpenUK Outline is: “Belfast, Brexit and AI”, published January 2025

Gaia X

 

Participants from Enterprises and the Public Sector joined OpenUK and partners at a Data Hub workshop on 31 March 2024 to consider how to move ahead with the UK Gaia-X Hub.

The event included Keynotes from:-

  • Amanda Brock (CEO, OpenUK)
  • James Mitchell (Deputy Director UK National data Strategy UK, DCMS)
  • Albert King (Chief Data Officer, The Scottish Government)

The collaborative workshop looked at the next steps as an open project for a UK Data Hub incorporating Gaia-X using Miro Boards looking at:
