Dear Readers,

A slightly different couple of weeks for me, as I attended a Mojaloop Foundation Board meeting in Rwanda. We took the opportunity to host an OpenUK and OpenHQ meet-up in Kigali, Rwanda. We also have an Africa Open Source report coming your way shortly, which will update on the content of those meet-ups and much, much more. Thanks to those who joined as speakers and attendees.

We will shortly be announcing our new suite of OpenUK and OpenHQ Ambassadors. OpenHQ’s international remit is going from strength to strength, as you can see.

OpenUK runs a world-leading recognition programme featuring our UK open source communities. You can look forward to our 7th Annual Awards launching around Easter. This year’s ceremony takes place on 5th November in the House of Commons, and we are grateful to Dame Chi Onwurah, MP, for again sponsoring this event. We are looking for category sponsors, so please let us know if you would like to become a sponsor.

Our annual survey will be launching shortly after Easter as we begin work on our annual State of Open Source report to be shared this summer.

Africa meet-ups and report

OpenUK was delighted to meet the open source communities in Rwanda with meet-ups focusing on AI and open source. The content of these meet-ups and more on the Africa Open Source landscape will feature in our forthcoming report on open source in Africa, which will focus on 3 Commonwealth Countries, Kenya, Nigeria and Rwanda.

Roundtable in Parliament

The Conservative Parliamentary opposition is hosting a roundtable thanks to Julia Lopez MP, Shadow Digital Minister and the Shadow Digital team on Wednesday 18th. An invited group of OpenUK leaders will meet the Opposition’s Digital leaders to discuss sovereignty, open source, infrastructure and AI. This follows hot on the heels of the Parliamentary debate on Sovereignty on 10th March.

Our next Skills report will be published in early April, and Sarah Edwards MP will be hosting a roundtable in Parliament, with members of our community able to join the event. There is very limited space available at this event, and it is not open to the press.
