Dear Readers,
This week’s newsletter is very much a celebration of the strength of open source contribution globally from the folk here in the UK, with the launch of our Ambassador Programme refresh and our Skills report.

OpenUK Ambassadors 2026 Cohort
Welcome to the team! We are delighted to recognise the contributions and leadership of our new team of OpenUK Ambassadors. We are delighted to be working with them to promote open technology in line with our purpose of UK leadership and global collaboration in open technology. They represent the gambit of open source, from software to standards, AI to data, and hardware.

We will be launching our Apprentice Ambassador and OpenHQ international Ambassador programmes in the next few weeks.
Open Source Skills Report 2026
Our most recent report focuses on skills, and the data for the UK shows that the UK hit 5 million GitHub Accounts for the first time. This is 7.9% of the UK population per capita who hold GitHub accounts to enable collaborative working and open source. As well as a deep analysis of the data, the report focuses on unpaid work and maintainers and how skills can be evolved – even in the age of AI – through contribution to open source projects.
