Dear Readers,

We are at that time of year where one of our critical pieces of OpenUK reporting is shared with you and the media. This year, Phase Two of our State of Open: The UK in 2024 report is taking on a different form. Our survey will run through September and our usual economic update will be shared in the autumn rather than the summer, as we focus on next week’s General Election in OpenUK’s The Open Manifesto Report.

The Open Manifesto brings together three key asks of the future UK government and in our Phase Two report we elaborate on these asks: Building Skills in open source; enabling the UK public sector to do open source better; and AI openness, bringing together Thought Leadership from our industry and beyond, Case Studies and Fireside Chats as well as updating the data about the UK’s contribution and usage of open source.

Will Hutton, familiar to many of you as a regular writer for the Observer and the author of the recently published book, This Time no Mistakes, will be writing for our report and delivering the opening keynote at the Launch event on 3 July in The Great Hall at Kings, on the Strand. We hope that you will join us.

He will be joined by an extremely impressive line up including our AI Advisory Board Chair, Neil Lawrence author of the recently published “The Atomic Human” and who will also deliver a keynote.

As well as sharing our report, their words of wisdom and a stellar line-up of speakers to explore the Manifesto asks we will also be giving away 30 copies of each of Will and Neil’s books and treating our audience to a book signing.

For anyone not able to attend in person the event will also be streamed and available afterwards via YouTube.
