Dear Readers,
We continue an action-packed calendar through October. This morning, we have shared a blog post providing more information about the work that we have been doing with the UK public sector, which includes asking them to fund open source and a whole lot more. See more in the blog post link below.
I was lucky enough to be asked to keynote the CERN OSPO event and to be listed as a Key Attendee at the Indian Global Leaders Impact Summit next February in Delhi. We hope that we will be hosting some interesting content there, too so watch this space for more info.
The 6th Annual Awards Nominee shortlist will be shared this week, so look out for this on our website, social media and in a special newsletter celebrating UK leadership and global collaboration in open technology.

“The UK’s future leadership in open source” Blog
Explaining the work we’ve been doing at OpenUK with UKRI and the UK public sector to understand funding and building an open source-friendly future landscape to enable sustainable software infrastructure.
As open source maintainer Mike McQuaid points out, “The world has learned that open source software can’t be sustained on goodwill alone, but it also can’t be fixed by money alone. What’s needed is a balance: investment in people, process and the long-term maintenance that enables innovation both inside and built on top of open source software.”

AI Impact Summit
India’s 🇮🇳 2026 Global AI Impact Summit has impressive key participants Anna Tumadóttir, Jensen Huang, Demis Hassabis… and Amanda Brock. The evolution of the summits since the UK kicked them off at Bletchley in ’23 sees a shift to openness. I’m grateful to the Indian Government and the organisation team for their inclusion. We’ll discuss open source and AI openness, likely in the context of data and sovereignty. If you’re interested in participating, we are building our event now and looking for sponsors mailto:admin@openuk.uk
You’ll also find us in Bangalore in November, releasing a report for Bangalore Tech Week along with Dr. Laura Gilbert CBE and the Summit organiser Abhishek Singh and at Civo Navigate India
Our conversation will fit perfectly with the Summit’s: Mission – Impact; 3 Sutras: People, Planet and Progress; and 7 Chakras: Human Capital, Inclusion for Social Empowerment, Safe and Trusted AI, Resilience, Innovation and Efficiency, Science, Democratising AI Resource, AI for Economic Growth and Social Good

Keynote at CERN OSPO event
Keynoting at the CERN OSPO event was a major excitement, as it would be for most fully signed-up NERDS and included a tour of their Antimatter Lab. It was the start of what we hope will be an ongoing partnership with the team at CERN.

Roundtable: Filling the Skills Gap with Open Source moved to 28 January 2026
Sadly this roundtable has been moved to January due to Parliamentary availability.
We will be covering the inevitable AI, as well as Digital Sovereignty. More roundtables will be shared shortly, and our rescheduled Skills Gap session will be hosted by Sarah Edwards MP on 28 January. These events are held in committee rooms within the Palaces of Westminster, under Chatham House rules and are not open to the press.
