Dear Readers,

What an exciting week it has been. I was hugely honoured to join the High Level Roundtable at COP29, to be part of the launch of The Green Digital Declaration with over 1000 signatories and to share the OpenUK Addendum, calling for it to be underplayed with open technology. It’s not too late to add your organisation’s endorsement – closes with COP29 on Friday.

Our CFP for SOOCOn25 has opened today and will run across 7 tracks until 8 December, so why not submit a talk or panel to our third annual open technology conference.

And next time we are in touch we will know the 12 winners of the OpenUK Awards 2025, our 5th Awards, which are truly the Oscars of Open Source and taking place at the House of Lords on 28 November.

State of Open Con 25 CFP Open Today

State of Open Con 25 will be back on 4 and 5 February and our CFP is now open across 7 tracks until 8 December. Successful speakers will be notified by 20 December when the Schedule will go live. Our tracks will cover software and security, hardware, data, mobile, finance, future of open source and future of AI. We will again have an incredible Delegate Experience area.

Nobody pays to speak at State of Open Con and our plenaries are curated to bring unrivalled international speakers and policy makers to our audience and all 7 tracks are filled from the CFP process. Our CFP chairs, room Hosts and CFP committees are deep subject matter experts and we are grateful to them and all of our volunteers for their time.

We are grateful to our sponsors for making this possible for a third fantastic time.

State of Open: The UK in 2024, Phase Three Open Source and Market Shaping

Open source disrupts and shapes markets and of course market factors inhibit or enable its success. We have explored these in our new report launched this week, ‘State of Open, They UK in 20204: Shaping Markets’ with Thought Leadership from former UK Digital Director, Mike Bracken and Iain Mitchell KC, a fireside chat with Lonneke Dreiessen of Open Charge Alliance, who are celebrating 10 years and the OCCP open standard, and case studies from the UK AI Safety Institute, British Library, Canonical/ BT and OpenEHR.
