Dear Readers,
Welcome to December and a celebration for me of having been 5 years in my role at OpenUK. Happy birthday to the OpenUK we know and love.
Our third annual State of Open Con is taking place on 4 and 5 February at Sancroft by Convene, at St Paul’s and we are looking forward to seeing many of you there. Our call for volunteers and our CFP are live and ticket sales will open shortly.
State of Open Con 25 Call For Papers Open until 8 December
State of Open Con is back for 2025 and our CFP is now open across 7 tracks until midnight UK on 8 December. Successful speakers will be notified before 20 December when the Schedule will go live. Our tracks will cover all areas of open technology and are “Open source software and Security”, “Open Hardware”, “Open Data”, “Mobile, Communications and Openness”, “Finance and Openness”, “Future of open source” and “AI Openness”. We will again have an incredible Delegate Experience area yet again and hope you will apply to join us as a speaker by submitting your talk to the CFP.
Nobody pays to speak at State of Open Con and our plenaries are curated to bring unrivalled international speakers and policy makers to our audience and the tracks are filled from the CFP process. Our CFP chairs, room Hosts and CFP committees are deep subject matter experts and we are grateful to them and all of our volunteers for their time. We are grateful to our sponsors for making this possible for a third fantastic time.
Submit to the Call For Proposals
Our event staff are primarily volunteers with the organisers coming from OpenUK’s paid staff and we are overwhelmed each year by the generosity of community volunteers. Each volunteer is given a two day ticket and asked to work for one day.
If your organisation would like to sponsor or host a table contact us at mailto:admin@openuk.uk for more info.
State of Open: The UK in 2024, Phase Three “Open Source and Market Shaping”
Open source disrupts and shapes markets and of course market factors inhibit or enable its success. We have explored these in our new report launched this week, ‘State of Open, They UK in 20204: Shaping Markets’ with Thought Leadership from former UK Digital Director, Mike Bracken and Iain Mitchell KC, a fireside chat with Lonneke Dreiessen of Open Charge Alliance, who are celebrating 10 years and the OCCP open standard, and case studies from the UK AI Safety Institute, British Library, Canonical/ BT and OpenEHR. |
OpenUK 5th Annual Awards 2024
Thanks to each of you who attended and if you were a nominee who either wasn’t shortlisted or who was shortlisted and didn’t win, please do nominate yourself next year. For anyone who is inspired to join as our sponsors for next year’s awards which will launch in April, do please get in touch mailto:admin@openuk.uk
